Opening Your CDs
CDs in Pinnacle Edition
Your computer cannot start The Textile Kit CD
We are sorry you are having problems with getting your computer to start the
The Textile Kit CD.
The CD should autorun on most computers, but if it does not, please follow the
instructions below. If you receive a security alert, you will need to approve
The Textile Kit CD. Note the separate instructions for PC and Mac users below.
For optimal performance, we strongly recommend you exit all other programs before proceeding.
For PC Users
- The freely distributed Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer is included on
The Textile Kit CD. If it is already installed on your
PC, it should automatically open the main PowerPoint file when you insert the CD in your computer's CD drive. Please
give the CD enough time to load as the main file is large and may take 30 seconds or more depending on the RAM
and speed of your computer. If you have PowerPoint installed on your computer, you may open the 1TKCD.ppt file
as you would any other PowerPoint presentation. But we strongly suggest the use of the PowerPoint Viewer instead,
because it allows much faster opening and viewing of the file. If you are having trouble with the PowerPoint Viewer,
you can download it from the
Microsoft website
- If your computer automatically plays music CDs when you insert them, it should open
The Textile Kit CD when you
insert the CD into your CD drive. However, if your computer is not set to autorun CDs, it will not open
The Textile Kit CD automatically. For PC users, double click on your CD drive icon to open the CD drive window,
double click on the pptview.exe to open the PowerPoint Viewer, click on the 1TKCD.ppt file, and hit enter to open
and view the presentation. PC users can also open their CD drive window by clicking on "Start", then "Run",
typing in d: (where "d" is the letter name of your CD drive), and pressing enter.
- If you try every suggestion and your computer still will not open
the CD, please try it on a computer in your campus computer lab. Bring
along a printout of this page and show it to the IT expert when you ask
for assistance.
- The above methods for opening the CD will work for most students. It
is highly unlikely the CD is defective and that a replacement would
solve your problem. If you cannot open the CD, the problem is
likely some interference from the particular settings of the computer
you are using. These are unique to every computer and thus
difficult to anticipate or diagnose. If, after trying the suggestions
above, your computer will still not open The Textile Kit CD,
please
contact us
and we
will help you to correct the problem, replace your CD, and/or provide online access to the information on the CD.
- Use the Adobe Reader to open and view The Textile Kit CD PDF files. If you do not already have it
installed on your computer, download the free Adobe Reader from the Adobe website at
www.adobe.com.
- Use Microsoft Word to open and edit The Textile Kit CD
Word file. If you have Word installed on your computer,
the file will open when you click on it. Alternatively, you can use OpenOffice, a free download at
www.openoffice.org.
- If the above suggestions do not work, you can access the
Virtual Lab Assistant, the SRQs, the LABs, and Other Resources on the CD via PDF files
on this website (although PDFs do not support the audio and some other features of the software).
Please note these files are password protected, so
contact us for a password (include your name, instructor's name,
and college or university name with your request) and then
visit the Student Resources page to access the information.
For MAC Users
- There is currently no PowerPoint Viewer available for Mac. If your computer has PowerPoint installed,
open the 1TKCD.ppt file as you would any other PowerPoint presentation.
You can either open
PowerPoint and then open the 1TKCD.ppt file on the CD, or open the CD and then click on the 1TKCD.ppt file to
launch PowerPoint.
Please give the CD enough time to load as the
main file is large and may take 30 seconds or more depending on the RAM and speed of your computer. If you do not
have PowerPoint, you have a few options:
- You can download a 30-day free trial of Microsoft Office (which includes PowerPoint) from the
Microsoft website.
- Or you can download the free open source software:
OpenOffice
(although this does not support the audio and some other
features of the software).
- If you try every suggestion and your computer still will not
open the CD, please try it on a computer in your campus computer
lab. Bring along a printout of this page and show it to the IT
expert when you ask for assistance.
